Our Research School
The Stoke-on-Trent Research School by The Keele and North Staffordshire Alliance aims to build and develop a community of teachers who work together collaboratively, critically, creatively and carefully to understand and improve the positive impact that they have on progress and achievement. We encompass a relentless drive to ensure that all children gain an equitable opportunity to education, whatever their age and prior experiences. We are ambitious that the Research School for Stoke-on-Trent Opportunity Area is seen not as a project, or an innovation but as an essential way of being. We are excited to enrich, enhance and develop colleague’s access to high quality research evidence that will inspire and drive teachers’ own learning, practice and development for benefit of young children, pupils, students and adult colleagues alike.
We have an unequivocal desire, the commitment and energy to further improve professional learning within and beyond the city region. We are attracted by the recognition that Research Schools are not a silver bullet but rather take a deep view of sustained school improvement. We are excited to be in a position to open up a particular kind of distinctive intellectual space that compliments the work of Teaching School Alliances and Universities but that is also distinctively different. This difference is concerned with finding evidence-informed practical responses to particular dilemmas, foregrounded by teachers and the multi-professional teams that they work with, and that are appropriate to the unique context of Stoke-on-Trent. A city that whilst not without its challenges is also a place of great opportunity.
